Understanding  The Aims of First Aid

 The aim of first aid given in an emergency situation is the treatment of the injured or ill before more qualified medical help arrives.

This is done in four ways:

• preserve life
• protect the unconscious victim
• prevent injury or illness from worsening and relieve pain
• promote recovery
